New Summer Crime Drama?
So, earlier this morning I ran on over to rottentomatoes to check out reviews for an upcoming summer movie. What I found was very surprising. Not only did it turn out to be that this flick was the very first I've ever seen on rt.com boasting a 100% ripe review score (albeit out of only 11 reviews), but most critics referred to the film as a "crime drama". Here are the reviews with the movie title and filmmaker name removed...
"Martin Scorsese's The Departed. Michael Mann's Heat. Brian de Palma's The Untouchables. And now,MOVIE TITLE can join the ranks as one of the best crime dramas in modern movie history."
"A dark, ambitious, mature and gritty crime saga the likes of which Michael Mann or Martin Scorsese would be proud to call their own. "
"An ambitious, full-bodied crime epic of gratifying scope and moral complexity, this is seriously brainy pop entertainment that satisfies every expectation"
"Dark, grim, haunting and inventive, MOVIE TITLE is nothing short of brilliant, representing WRITER/DIRECTOR'S most accomplished and mature work to date..."
"WRITER/DIRECTOR has created an unforgettable piece of crime fiction."
"MOVIE TITLE is another unforgettable offering from the visionary that defies all expectations, one so grounded in a brutal reality you're left in a cold sweat by its stalwart refusal to cater to escapist fantasies. While one might hesitate to throw around overused words like 'masterpiece,' it's refreshing that MOVIE TITLE is not a movie that can be viewed and easily discarded like so much other summer fare."
Any guesses what film this is? The film just happens to be The Dark Knight. Chris Nolan's sequel to Batman Begins. Being a huge fan of Nolan's work ("Memento", "The Prestige", and "Begins") I'm certainly looking forward to this Batman follow-up. Could a superhero flick actually be nominated for Best Picture of the Year? We shall see.
